Abstract

Purpose: This study was to identify perceptions on hospice and good death in nursing college students.

Methods: The subjects of this study were 149 nursing students from a college. Data was collected with the questionnaire tool for characteristics and perceptions in hospice and good death for students.

Results: The method to know hospice in the book or the curriculum was 55.7% of the students. Education intention in hospice was 82.6% of the students. Feeling on death of subjects was 57.7% in ¡®anxiety¡¯, 19.5% in ¡®peaceful¡¯. Meanings of death in subjects were 78.5% in ¡®last process of life¡¯. Nursing students were significantly different according to grade in hospice perceptions. Gender, religion, health state, and experience on family death were not significantly different. Good death perception according to subjects general characteristics were not significantly ¡Ç different.

onclusion: Understanding the college students¡¯ perception of hospice and good death would be valuable for developing a integrated training program about hospice. Interdisciplinary approach for hospice education is necessary for nursing
students¡¯ a team based cooperative clinical practice.
